Class Clowns Harming the Cause

President Obama appears to be friendly to causes that embrace conservation of our Natural Resources.  That said, many critics have pointed out that his policies, planned or actual, may severely harm the U.S. economy.  Others point out that since neither India nor China, nor many other countries are willing or able to abide by his self-imposed regulations, that those measures will amount to simply hand cuffing the US with restrictions while making us less competitive, driving  jobs abroad and effectively doing nothing to benefit the environment globally. 

In fact, when jobs go abroad to countries that have even less environmental regulation than what currently exists in the U.S., pollution and environmental destruction increases, while power to make change in all its forms will evaporate from the United States.  Position Power, Economic Power, Scientific Power, Power to Influence and the like will all be handed off to countries that may or may not be as interested in Environmental concerns, while they are deeply interested in their own economic development.  Development that comes with an environmental cost.

Greenpeace, once a promoter of educating people and governments about the need to clean up, has turned into that spoiled brat wanting attention and demanding his/her way regardless of what others may want or think.   These are people that effectively harm the cause.  Why?  Because they are about self promotion, do not listen to other points of view, and don’t bring viable and sustainable solutions to the table. They wants funding and visibility and, don’t care about the inevitable backlash from people who will lose jobs and are otherwise harmed who turn on Environmental Stewardship.   Instead they give us so-called ”Offsets”. 

“Offsets” are a way for polluters to pollute while buying “offsets” from non polluters. 

Think of it this way.  While you and your friends and family are allowed to be punched in the nose by some bully, the assaulting bully gets to say he/she didn’t punch anyone because this whole group of church goers didn’t punch anyone and said Bully is going to buy their peaceful behavior in terms of credits or offsets to say he/she was not violent and didn’t punch anyone.  Does that make any sense whatsoever?  Someone is still getting violently punched!  And we are the suckers.  Even Al Gore uses offsets to fly his Lear Jet from show to show and to operate his near-castle sized mansion. 

It is a shame because they (Greenpeace and Al) are a voice in the debate, but they are allowing themselves to morph into  class clowns or hypocrits with a greedy agenda worthy of dismissal. Ed Begley is far more worthy of being a mouthpiece for controlled and sane good and although we can all agree to disagree on things, Ed is not disagreeable.  Everyone can do something today to improve our environment, but protest warriors are not examples worthy of following.
